ToDo List Update

Lists of tests Dr. MAG would like for us to have done.

For me:
     1.  Blood test checking TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) levels.
[thyroid hormones]  (OB/GYN clinic $75.  Local clinic $17!)
     2.  Blood test checking FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) levels.
(OB/GYN clinic $82.  Local clinic $16!)
     3.  Blood test checking LH (luteinizing hormone) levels.
(OB/GYN clinic $45.  Local clinic $16!)
     4.  Blood test checking Prolactin levels.
(OB/GYN clinic $100.  Local clinic $16?  Didn't have the price right in front of him, but said he imagines it's about the same as the others.)
     5.  And a HSG (hysterosalpingogram).  To check that my fallopian tubes are open and not blocked, as well as to evaluate the size and shape of my uterus.  Still need to call about this one.

For Jared:
      1.  Semen Analysis
Only done at the out of town hospital.  $69 for the test.  $26 for the collection fee, then was told we might not have to pay a collection fee.  Asked if we could pick up the collection cup and bring it back, so it would be more comfortable for him....  She said we can do that, BUT we have to get it back to them within 20mins afterwards.  (Maybe we can find a nice back alley to park in..... lol).

I've been doing some research on methods of obtaining the collection for the semen analysis.  And we are very interested in the collection condom method.  Anyone tried this??  Several places I've looked at online say, "A sample may also be collected during intercourse in a special type of condom known as a collection condom. Collection condoms are made from silicone or polyurethane, as latex is somewhat harmful to sperm. Many men prefer collection condoms to masturbation, and some religions prohibit masturbation entirely."

Here's some info I've found on collection condoms:
  • Male-FactorPak condoms:  Allows for the collection of sperm samples naturally during intercourse for use in fertility testing and treatments. Studies show that semen samples obtained through intercourse are more viable than those obtained through masturbation.  Decreases collection anxiety, and can significantly increase the total number of functional sperm in an ejaculate.
  • Non-spermicidal:  Biologically inert polyurethane condom maintains sperm motility and velocity. No mold releases or powders used in condom manufacture.
  • Lubricants:  You can use Pre-Seed if you need lubrication and no other lubricants.  Your partner can use the Pre-Seed internally and the male can put a small amount on the tip of the penis before putting the condom on.  The Pre-Seed can be applied to the outside of the condom as well.
  • Easy to use:  Patient simply cleans genitals prior to use and removes the condom when erection has ceased after ejaculation. Or, you may choose to cut the tip off with a pair of scissors to transfer a sample to a collection vessel.
  • Sterile:  Individually sealed and packaged.
